One of favorite days out in Scotland, when I want somewhere close, has to be Muddy Boots in Fife. A fantastic place for kids, and adults too, where kids can play and adults can sit and relax. I have been coming here for years and I remember when I first found the placein 2008, when it was a small wooden hut selling soft fruits and a limited range of fresh vegetables grown on their land, with a port-a-loo outside and a small tin snack bar selling homemade soup and cakes. Over the years it had grown and evolved into a popular, well-loved attraction. Run by Triena and Paddy and their extended family it maintains the comfy laid back family feel it always has, only now on a much larger scale.
I love the restaurant at Muddy boots. It’s the perfect place to sit and relax while the kids place, although it gets very busy at the weekends so I do tend to go during the week. They serve meals using much of the ingredients from the farm itself, but also locally sourced products including Puddledub bacon and sausages, Stornoway black pudding and delicious Aberdeen Angus burgers. The focal point of the restaurant has to be the large log burning fire in the centre, which is surrounded by huge comfy couches and big chunky pine tables and chairs.
On the menu there is always a homemade soup or two, breakfasts, Panini’s, pancakes, salads, sandwiches and an amazing range of fresh homemade cakes which, I’m reliably informed, are made my the owner and her mum in a little Bakehouse behind the kitchen.
There is loads outside for the kids to do, including two much loved giant jumping pillows, one for the small ones and one for the older ones (and adults too – can’t resist). There is also grass sledging, go karting, zorbing, train rides, duck racing, diggers, wigwams, and a huge indoor soft play area.
There is several animals hanging around, some chickens, ducks, goats, guinea pigs and some pigs, which reminds me, do not miss the pig racing up the hill, it is honestly the cutest, funniest thing you’ve ever seen
