My daughter has a slight obsession with foxes so when we found out the Scottish Deer Centre in Fife had some we wrapped up and headed straight there bringing my niece and mum along too. Situated just outside Cupar the Deer Centre covers 55 acres of gorgeous Scottish woodland. The sheer scale gave our legs a good workout. The park has 14 different species of Deer including the Axel Deer, Reindeer and Roe Deer. You can feed certain types, with a bag of treats bought from the reception. They happily munch from your hand and are extremely cute, as well as being quite comical. There is also Asian Short Clawed Otters from Asia, two European Brown Bears, a Northern Links and three Scottish Wildcats. There is a bird of prey area and they put on displays most days and also some gorgeous strange looking Eurasian Elk/moose. The Deer Centre also has Fife's only wolf pack. Wolfs no longer roam free in Scotland after being persecuted for killing deer, the last being hunted and killed in 1745, so this is fascinating to see, especially during feeding time when the keepers throw meat in and the wolves show off their skills in attacking their prey. In the Witches Wood at the top of the park is where you'll find Ginge the Red Fox, the bears and the Moose. The woodland path takes you along to the wolves and if you've a head for heights there is a tree top walk so you can hunt for red squirrells. You'll also find a wooden play park for the kids with swings and a flying fox. If you time your day well you can also enjoy experiences such as a falconry display, the otter feeding, a carnivore tour where you watch all the animals being fed and a nose 2 nose, where you get to join two very friendly little hand-reared deer in their field and learn more about them. The cafe is perfect to heat yourself up after your walk, the soup is a must! If you fancy some shopping there are a few little shops including the Edinburgh Woollen Mill. If you'd like to treat the adults after the kids raid the gift shop head to the Highland Food and Whisky shop for a huge range of single malts and blended whiskies, with free tasters! This park has more than enough to keep the whole family happy and busy for the full day. Find out more at The Scottish Deer Centre
